Essentially cloth…. Are essential oils really needed with cloth nappies?

I think a common misconception about cloth nappies is that you should be using essential oils on them to help treat smells and stains. However, this is not the case. If you are currently doing this, please stop, as that means you have bacteria growing on your nappies from not following the correct wash routine. This can then lead to nappy rash and sores on your little one.

With saying all this it is not harmful to add some essential oils to your washing detergent to give off a nice smell to your nappies, however you must be extremely careful as to what type of oil and the dosage amount that you are using. As some oils should not be placed on newborns and quantities vary for infants to adults. But just make sure your nappies are not smelling first as you don’t want to be masking a potential issue.

With saying all this I think using the essential oils is a natural and safer way which we should be leaning towards…. Especially when applying creams, oils and powders to ourselves and little ones…..

Why you say??

Basically, our skin is the largest organ of our body, and yes I said organ! This means that what we put on our skin is absorbed into our body.

Now let’s just think about that for a little bit….. I know I have grown up with using leading brands of moisturiser and my mother always used these leading brands of baby products (such as moisturiser, nappy rash cream and massage oils) on me when I was small. And I bet 90% of mothers always did as these companies promoted they are safe for little ones…. But as we are only just starting to find out, these baby products/ and other skin ranges are made up from 100% man made products… which means these are chemicals! Do you want all these chemicals in your little one’s body?

Don’t get me wrong, I am no natural Goddess, I used these leading brands all the time with my first one. But after talking to a beautiful friend who is a consultant for essential oils she proved to me otherwise. Just think for a second what is more logical, to be smothering our babies raw bottoms with a dozen or more random chemicals or should we look to nature, which our ancestors did, to find a cure. Luckily for us we don’t have to do much research either, it is all out there on the internet. But like me I am a bit sceptical about what pops up on the internet, so I like to learn from professionals. My friend Aimee is an expert on this and if you want more information about essential oils and the benefits they have, or even how to get started please contact me and I can put you in touch.

Don’t get me wrong chemicals are needed in some situations… like medicine! But when it comes to skin care shouldn’t we look towards a natural approach first?

So that’s the end of my little spiel… do you need to use essential oils on cloth nappies…NO!... but essential oils can benefit you little one in terms of nappy rash and using a natural way to treating numerous baby related issues … it’s just the natural and safe alternative.
